This is a gem, that I would file alongside The Long Walk.1/4 cloth. SK is definately one of my favourite authors, but I tend to like most, his more easy going morality tales more than the blockbusters. it reminded me of The Langoliers in a way. People shouldn't come to this expecting an action packed epic, more a mystery and gentle suspense novel. The story itself feels like a more fleshed out short story, and that's not a criticism. I guess SK is good at this anyway, but I particuarly noticed it in this story. The book itself travels at a gentle but we'll paced speed, and to he characters are written exceeding well, each having their own identifiable styles. The narration shifts characters and time, and having different voices helps keep up. The use of multiple narrators is something I usually am not too keen on, but here it works. I'm glad I didn't, as I know that it might not have interested me. I decided to get this after hearing about it another of Kings forwards, and did so without reading a synopsis. Like I said - if you like how Stephen King writes - mega loads of flashbacks, lots of pieces of information that are obviously just filler because they have no impact on the storyline at all, then go ahead and listen to this book. What character would you cut from From a Buick 8? Wish there were more Dean Koontz novels to choose from, the older ones, as I would love to listen to some of them. I'm currently listening to Alien Covenant, as I love books that are movies. Must say, this book re-enforced my dislike of Stephen King novels (I used to collect his books, but they all just drag out so much that they became droll and boring) Mind you, if you like the constant flashbacks, and dislike straightforward storylines (with or without twists and turns), then you'd probably love this book. It was so boring, drawn out, and had very little in the way of "excitement". What disappointed you about From a Buick 8?
